Back to school!
The Ready Steady Read team of volunteers returned to seven schools for the autumn term in September, with 168 children taking part. The scheme runs for 12 weeks at Wansbeck Primary, Wheeler Primary, Ainthorpe Primary, Collingwood Primary, Clifton Primary and Bridgeview Special School, finishing just before the Christmas break.
As with every new school year, we’re looking forward to getting to work with some of our old friends and excited about new ones too. Without our incredible team of volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to deliver the work we do to so many young people in Hull, improving their literacy and, consequently their outcomes in education. This term we’re delighted to have 21 volunteers in our team and we thank them all for their dedication and hard work, ensuring that all of the children they work with have the opportunity to experience and engage with reading.
In addition, we wouldn’t be able to deliver the reading scheme without the support of our sponsors. We’d like to express our gratitude to Hinks Insurance, who are sponsoring one of our Wansbeck Primary volunteers; Jenko Creative, who are sponsoring one of our Wheeler Primary volunteers; Feedback Market Research, who are sponsoring one of our Ainthorpe Primary volunteers; and IT Spectrum, who are sponsoring our Clifton Primary volunteer.
Without our sponsors and volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to help children who are falling behind to develop the essential literacy skills, confidence and love for reading that they need to succeed at school and in life.
