Welcome to Ready, Steady, Read – a registered charity working across Hull and East Yorkshire to help improve children’s literacy, boost reading ages and develop a lifelong love of reading.

We are a completely non profit organisation, none of our founders, trustees, or volunteers are paid for the work they do.

Instead, our dedicated team commit their time for free and our services are provided completely free of charge, as we are passionate about making a difference.

Become a volunteer

Reading is essential to a successful education and a bright future. Children across Hull are falling behind with their reading – and at Ready, Steady, Read, we are here to help them close the gap.

To do this, we rely on a dedicated team of volunteers – local people of all ages, and from all backgrounds who go into primary schools to help support the children who need it most.

Supporting schools

Ready, Steady, Read supports schools across Hull and East Yorkshire – providing fully trained, vetted and DBS checked volunteer readers, who go into classrooms and work directly with children who need help with their reading.

We are a registered charity that’s here to help, and our support is available to primary schools across the region completely free of charge.
